知名导演 Denis Villeneuve 近期接受《Empire》访问之时透露希望在《沙丘：第二部 Dune: Part Two》之后，能持续探索《沙丘 DUNE》原著世界观，推出第三部曲：「如果我能成功制作三部曲，那等于便是美梦成真。」
Denis Villeneuve 口中说的《Dune: Part Three》第三部曲，将会改编自 Frank Herbert 原著小说系列第二部作品《Dune Messiah》，本作为 1965 年首集《Dune》的直接续集，尔后还有《Children of Dune》、《God Emperor of Dune》、《Heretics of Dune》与《Chapterhouse: Dune》，全系列共六部作品，Denis 对《Dune Messiah》如此评论着：
「《Dune Messiah》叙述着人们将 Paul Atreides 视为一名救世主的故事，但他并不愿意这么做，而我的改编相当接近这样的概念，因此这便是一种警讯。」Denis 补充表示个人对《Dune》的改编将会止步于三部曲，因为小说后来的续集太过深奥。
《沙丘：第二部》原订于 2023 年底上映，不料好莱坞遭逢编剧和演员工会的持续性罢工，最终 Warner Bros. Pictures 宣布该片延期至 2024 年 3 月 15 日上映，另一部大片《哥吉拉大战金刚 2：帝国崛起》也确认延后至 2024 年 4 月 12 日。
